Department of Wellness and Prevention Services
The Department of Wellness and Prevention Services at Appalachian State University serves all students through the promotion of healthy behaviors, risk behavior modification services, and advocacy for campus-wide health policies that facilitate student success and holistic well-being. We offer a variety of trainings and workshops and coordinate multiple events throughout the semester. Some of our focus areas are suicide prevention, interpersonal violence prevention, substance abuse prevention, sexual health, nutrition and resiliency. Our office offers addictions counseling and nutrition counseling free of charge for currently enrolled students.
Survive and Thrive - Suicide Prevention
Survive and Thrive is a suicide prevention training offered by The Department of Wellness and Prevention Services at Appalachian State University. The training is offered to students, faculty and staff. Online and in-person options are available. If you would like more information about suicide prevention and mental health resources, please visit the website, which is full of useful information to help a student of concern.
Faculty and staff are encouraged to participate in At-Risk, a free 45 minute online suicide prevention simulation. You may also wish to familiarize yourself with the Crises Response Protocol for Suicide and Suicide Attempts and the Student Death Protocol.
